Inauguration of the 20th edition of Paris Plages

Saturday July 10, the Mayor of Paris inaugurated the 20th edition of Paris Plages. It will end on August 22 and will be governed by strict sanitary provisions.

Saturday July 10, the Mayor of Paris inaugurated the 20th edition of Paris Plages. It will end on August 22 and will be governed by strict sanitary provisions.

Sanitary provisions

Visitors to Paris Plages must respect good reflexes, for their health and that of others.

  • Wearing a mask is recommended as well as respecting the distances in the queues.
  • Health professionals advise and guide you to the health village in the Bassin de la Villette.
  • Prevention actions and information on barrier gestures as well as assistance in making appointments for all people volunteering for vaccination are offered at the Doctolib Rives de Seine and Bassin de la Villette space by the anti-Covid mediators.

The sites

This year, Paris Plages takes place on 3 sites:

  • The Rives de Seine park, from the Pont des Arts to the Pont de Sully.
  • The Villette basin
  • The Trocadéro gardens, a novelty entirely dedicated to sport from July 17 to September 13. We will be able to attend retransmissions of the Tokyo Games, the European Cup of 3×3 basketball, an international skate-boarding event and sports demonstrations and activities as well as cultural events within the framework of the Hyper Festival.

Rives de Seine Park

Paris Plages offers entertainment every day from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Cultural and sporting activities, relaxation areas or first aid training are available to the public. Parasols and deckchairs allow you to relax. The “Ludomouv” is aimed at young and old with board games for everyone. “Jardin des brumes” to cool off. Some cultural events for the 2021 edition: libraries outside the walls, poetic consultations, photo exhibition …

A vaccination center and Charlie Chaplin film-concert welcome you on the forecourt of the Town Hall.

To cool off, refreshments, ice cream parlors and snack bars.

Bassin de la Villette

Like every year, the swimming pools are accessible. Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to midnight on weekends. Swimming, water sports (kayaking, pedalo, water bike, floating climbing wall, etc.) are waiting for you. Visitors can play table football, trampoline, tai chi. For a quiet activity, bowling alley and for the more adventurous, zip lining. The Bédéthèque is open to everyone.

The health village offers advice and the possibility of getting vaccinated. So as not to forget the children: workshops, board games, books, exhibitions and a children’s club. As part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, many sports activities are on the program.

Paillottes, deckchairs, parasols, refreshment bar, ice cream parlor are available to the public. The “Jardin des brumes” to cool off in hot weather.

Trocadero

Several sports competitions take place during Paris Plages: The Tokyo Olympics from July 23 to August 8; the international skateboarding event from August 16-18.

This site will be open until September 13. The fountain broken down since 2019, becomes an ephemeral stadium from July 23 to September 13 for the Tokyo Olympics and in anticipation of the handover with Paris 2024. French Olympic medalists returning from Japan will be present and sporting events are planned in live or broadcast.

  • World Streetball Championship, July 17 and 18;
  • Live from the Tokyo Olympics, from July 23 to August 8;
  • International skateboarding event, August 16-18;
  • Sports initiation weekend, August 21 and 22;

After Paris Plages

  • Introductory Archery Day, August 25;
  • Live from the Tokyo Paralympic Games, September 2-5;
  • Games closing ceremonies, August 8 and September 5;
  • European 3v3 Basketball Championship, September 10-12.

Hopefully the sun will be present during this 20th edition in order to discover the novelties and the sporting events.
